Patrick was born in D.R.C , but grew up in Namibia and South Africa. Where he lives with his parents John and Theresa Kapend and his brother and sister. He attended Primary school in Namibia and from grade 4 at ellerton primary and high school at sea point high, and finished high school in 2007. Patrick is now busy with his National Diploma at cape peninsula university of technology. Patrick would love to return back to Congo and do some business there, His reason for leaving Congo in the first place was for better education, and because of the War.
Design Philosophy
Principle Concerns - Patrick likes working with caps and frames, enamelling, Resin work and would prefer using these techniques instead of repousse, which he doesn't really like.
Attitude to design - His attitude towards design is very bold, He likes creating big pieces, exploring different patterns and textures. He also loves pieces with nice clean lines and creating contrast in his pieces.
Themes
-He draws inspiration from big bold things. Architecture is where he mainly gets his inspiration form, for his ten piece theme Patrick combines Architecture with floral patterns to create jewellery for women that is bold but feminine.
Caps and frames earring with textuure on top and garnet stones set in each one, this is a design from his ten piece project where he used architecture and floral patterns as inspiration.
This is also one of his ten piece project pieces, one of my favourites, sterling silver ring, that shows construction, straight lines with floral patterns that gives the piece good contrast.
Aims and aspirations
- Things that inspire him.
HIs Parents, " They Worked so hard for me to be where I am today." He gets inspired by Images, buildings , what he also is inspired by is his country, because of the minerals they have there that was taken away. and the fact that there isn't a thing like a jeweller there.

Techniques he can do
Patrick uses Repousse, Hollow construction, Etching, Enameling, Wood inlays, wire work, setting, Resin, casting, fly pressing, roll pressing and wax carving, he uses some of these techniques in his pieces below.
